Type: Self-aligning double-row ball bearings. Two rows of balls seated in cylindrical raceways of the inner ring, with a spherical swivelling raceway on the outer ring that allows self-alignment.
Construction: With the same outside diameter and bore as single-row bearings (22XX series), they are slightly wider but offer significantly higher load capacity. Two cages in glass-fibre-reinforced PA66 polyamide keep the balls aligned and reduce inertia.
Self-alignment: The spherical raceway of the outer ring allows automatic compensation of angular misalignment of up to 2-3 degrees, eliminating stress on the shaft and housing.
Protection: Open bearings without seals (standard design). The absence of seals makes cleaning and greasing easier, but requires greater protection from external contaminants.
Radial clearance: Available in class CN (normal), C2 (reduced), C3, C4, C5 (increased) depending on the application and temperature.
Lubrication: Require periodic lubrication with grease. Maintenance is needed to renew the grease because of the absence of seals.
Specifications: High radial load capacity for the same size compared with single row, low friction, temperatures from -30°C to +80°C, effective compensation of misalignment, stability at high speed.
Applications: Electric motors, transmissions, gearboxes, fans, pumps, agricultural machinery, installations where misalignment is unavoidable, systems with medium-to-high loads and where greater stability is required.
Benefits: Higher load capacity than single row with the same external size, self-alignment of up to 2-3°, compact design, low friction even at high speed, wide availability of radial clearance variants.
